Pedal to Gettysburg with Face of America Liberty

National non-profit World T.E.A.M.’s inclusive Face of America Liberty cycling challenge to West Point from historic Sleepy Hollow, New York will be held Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Active and retired military, first-responder and civilians with disabilities are encouraged to join this inclusive two-day non-competitive ride.

Participating Adaptive Athlete Requirements

To participate in Face of America Liberty, the successful adaptive athlete must:

  • Have a documented physical, emotional or developmental disability through birth, injury or illness;
  • Be physically fit to be able to complete a day of cycling 56 miles on hilly terrain;
  • Be able to fully commit at the time of registration to our September 28, 2019 event. Individuals who cancel their participation after September 1, 2019 may be subject to financial penalties. These penalties may be waived if the athlete provides medical documentation from their physician certifying they are unable to participate or official military orders.

There is a $25 registration fee, and a commitment of $125 in fundraising. You must meet these financial commitments to participate. Participants are required to meet their fundraising commitment by September 20, 2019, or an autocharge will be applied to the provided credit account to reach the minimum.

Adaptive Athlete Benefits

All registered adaptive athletes at Face of America Liberty will receive the following:

  • A ride gift bag.
  • An Athlos ride cycling jersey.
  • All meals Saturday – continental breakfast, a quick snack at noon, and a quick snack at the end of the ride.
  • Return bus transportation from West Point to the ride start.

Adaptive Athlete Financial Responsibilities

All registered adaptive athletes participating at Face of America Liberty are responsible for the following personal expenses:

  • Personal transportation from the athlete’s home to the host Sheraton Hotel in Tarrytown or to the Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow if traveling directly to the ride beginning Saturday morning. Return transportation at the conclusion of the program.
  • Shipping of bicycles or hand cycles to Tarrytown or to Sleepy Hollow (there are no bicycle rentals available).
  • Lodging for Friday and/or Saturday evening if needed.
  • All meals outside the provided Saturday meals.

Registration deadlines for adaptive athletes

  • Friday, August 30: Registration deadline for adaptive athletes.
  • Saturday, August 31 and later: Adaptive athletes interested in participating may contact Patti Haley by email message to request consideration. Registration is by invitation only in this period.
