Complete this Application to Qualify for Face of America Liberty

National non-profit World T.E.A.M.’s inclusive Face of America Liberty cycling challenge to the United States Military Academy at West Point on the west bank of the Hudson River from the Phelps Hospital in historic Sleepy Hollow, New York will be held Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Active and retired military, first-responder and civilians with disabilities are invited to complete this application to receive an invitation to register for this 56-mile, challenging non-competitive ride.

Applications for adaptive athletes will be accepted for consideration as positions remain. Once the category capacity is reached, applications will be accepted for our replacement rider list. Replacement riders fill openings from athletes who drop out unexpectedly for medical reasons or for official military orders.

Participating Adaptive Athlete Requirements

To be considered as a candidate by our adaptive athlete participation committee and be invited to register as a participant, the successful applicant must:

  • Have a documented physical, emotional or developmental disability through birth, injury or illness;
  • Be physically fit to be able to complete a day of cycling 56 miles on hilly terrain;
  • Be able to fully commit at the time of registration to our September 28, 2019 event. Individuals who cancel their participation after September 1, 2019 may be subject to financial penalties. These penalties may be waived if the athlete provides medical documentation from their physician certifying they are unable to participate or official military orders.

Accepted athletes who receive email invitations to ride will then need to register. An application is not complete until online registration is complete. There is a $25 registration fee, and a commitment of $125 in fundraising. You must meet these financial commitments to participate. Participants are required to meet their fundraising commitment by September 20, 2019, or an autocharge will be applied to the provided credit account to reach the minimum.

Adaptive Athlete Benefits

All registered adaptive athletes at Face of America Liberty will receive the following:

  • A ride gift bag.
  • An Athlos ride cycling jersey.
  • All meals Saturday – continental breakfast, a quick snack at noon, and a quick snack at the end of the ride.
  • Return bus transportation from West Point to the ride start.

Adaptive Athlete Financial Responsibilities

All registered adaptive athletes participating at Face of America Liberty are responsible for the following personal expenses:

  • Personal transportation from the athlete’s home to the host Sheraton Hotel in Tarrytown or to the Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow if traveling directly to the ride beginning Saturday morning. Return transportation at the conclusion of the program.
  • Shipping of bicycles or hand cycles to Tarrytown or to Sleepy Hollow (there are no bicycle rentals available).
  • Lodging for Friday and/or Saturday evening if needed.
  • All meals outside the provided Saturday meals.

If you are are a previous Face of America, Face of America Liberty or Adventure Team Challenge participant, you may find it easier to create a new user account and password (we’ll merge your accounts after you register).

Once you have successfully completed our adaptive athlete application for an invitation to participate in Face of America Liberty 2019, a confirmation screen will appear on your browser stating so. In addition, you will receive an email confirmation to your provided address.

What Happens Next?

All applicants will be carefully considered by our qualification committee. Be aware that applying does not guarantee acceptance as a participant. Selected athletes will include a mix of first-year athletes, and returning, experienced athletes. The review process may take up to a week or ten days, depending on the volume of applicants.

You will be contacted by email message by a representative from World T.E.A.M. if you are selected for participation. At that time, you will be invited to register for Face of America Liberty using an exclusive link to our adaptive athlete registration page.
